Good Family Life is expanding into national food benefit program for military and new Veteran families. The program began in Texas, as Texas Family Life. The "Family Life" programs are administered in conjunction with Onward Ops and organized by State. Family Life programs primarily address food insecurity, but can provide support for other immediate needs on a case-by-case basis.
By enrolling transitioning service members -- who have self-identified and qualified as food insecure -- we can ensure that those who need the most support receive it. Once enrolled, transitioning service members may be eligible to continue receiving the food benefit for a minimum of three months after they have left active duty. Along with our standard program, a new pilot program is being developed in Florida with independent partners Operation Warrior Hope and OnComms to support existing Veterans.
Utilizing a curbside pickup model in partnership with trusted local grocers, we eliminate many of the barriers that prevent our servicemen and women receiving the short-term help they desperately need, such as:
- the stigma of asking for help
- shame in being unable to support their family
- inconvenience
- lack of food options
- consideration for dietary limitations
- cultural considerations
For transitioning service members, the monthly food benefit is not intended to permanently solve food insecurity, but rather mitigate a stressor for them and their families as they transition from active duty to civilian life.
